St. Petersburg is a Russian cultural heart. One of the world’s most beautiful cities,White Nights Festival has all the ingredients for an unforgettable travel experience: high art, lavish architecture, wild nightlife, an extraordinary history and rich cultural traditions that have inspired and nurtured some of the modern world’s greatest literature, music, and visual art.
There is always a good reason why to visit St. Petersburg but during this festival there is a reason plus.
The White Night Festival is an international festival during the season of the midnight sun. This festival begins in May with the ,,Stars of the White Night” and it ends in July.
Many of the events happen at the Mariinsky Ballet and Opera Theater. During the White Nights Festival St Petersburg is the most enjoyable and live city anywhere in Russia.
It is a series of opera, orchestral performances and classical ballet, during the day time and also in the evenings.
White Night Festival originally first time was organized in 1993 by Anatoly Sobchak. If you want to be a part of this festival you need to get your ticket several weeks even months before, because getting tickets on the spot may be very expensive for you.
The performances in this festival are performed by Russian singers, musicians, dancers and actors and some famous international guest stars.
There are performances that happen in the Palace Square, and it is a place where Paul McCartney, Scorpions and the Rolling Stones had concerts.
No other major European city can rival this experience or the atmosphere on the streets of St. Petersburg during the White Nights Festival – lively, friendly, romantic and bustling with people throughout the night as well as the day.
There is a tradition typical for this festival – to watch the Neva bridges open. You can watch it from the riverside or on a boat cruise- which I recommend.
