From January 5, 2016 to February 25, 2016, you can experience the world’s largest ice festival in beautiful Harbin city. You will have a very special winter experience- ice hotels, ice and snow world, international snow sculpture art expo, ice lantern art fair, winter swimming watching and many more things.
This is one of the largest ice festivals in the world, at first the participants were only Chinese, but since it became international there are many other cultures that participate.
There are two area, the Sun Island area which is on the opposite side of the Songhua River which features enormous snow sculptures, and the Ice and Snow World. The Ice and Snow Area is area open at night with sculptures illuminated.
Swing saws are used to carve ice into blocks, taken from the frozen surface of the Songhua River. Apart from winter recreational activities available in Harbin, these exquisitely detailed, mass-produced ice sculptures are the main draw card in attracting tourists around the world to the festival.
Central Scenic Area is heart of the Ice and Snow World made up of some ice mountains, Time Square, Century Clock, giant ice colonnades, ice fountains, multi-colored ice screens and so on. visitors can enjoy various wonderful shows, sleigh rides, skating, ice disco, or participate in night masquerade during annual opening is designated to be held.
Island International Snow Sculpture Art Expo has received over 2.3 million visitors, and has been one of the hottest and must see attractions in Harbin Ice and Snow Festival. So if you plan on visiting Harbin during this period of the year, you cannot miss this festival. It is a real delight.
In general, each of the three venues have different ticket prices and hours. The Zhaolin Park Ice Lantern Festival venue and the Ice and Snow World venue are evening exhibitions, and the snow sculptures on Sun Island are for viewing during the daylight.
